The fighting continues with the Imperials unleashing the Silverfish ; machines capable of hacking and overriding most unit systems by infecting the target with billions of nanomachines delivered via their four tendrils.

In the event that the target is incapacitated or lacks power, the Silverfish is able to animate the target, albeit for a very short time. Captured mecha units can also be used as cover for the Silverfish

The Silverfish possess an AI programmed to be as resourceful as possible on the battlefield, without the need for infecting fellow Imperial units. As such, they are excellent ambush predators and are known to lurk in massive debris belts for unsuspecting prey.

General strategy involving the Silverfish include sending them with the first wave of attackers; skirmishers providing cover for Silverfish to infect targets in relative safety. Some Silverfish with less-advanced AI systems simply lash out with their tendrils causing massive damage, or latching onto targets and then self-destruct.

Note: The initial idea was for these units to go on ahead and kamikaze against enemies, but then it looked too plain yet complicated to put on paper. The mind/unit-controlling idea came from the Zerg Infestors of Starcraft 2, while the name Silverfish came from the Terminator series.
